Tell us about your role & a bit about your career background.
I am currently working within the UK Bristol office in the accounts department as an Assistant Financial Controller.
My role within the organisation is to assist with the day-to-day Finance function of the company and ensure that we attain financial compliance.
Prior to LOM I was working at other accounting practices preparing company accounts and tax returns. I did this for about six years.
Why did you choose to come and work for LOM?
I was interested in working for an investment company. LOM was a great opportunity for me as they were willing to invest their time in teaching me the ropes from an accounting perspective.
How has working at LOM helped you with your career?
Working for LOM has given me a real insight into the investment industry.
What makes LOM different to other employers you have worked for?
LOM is very ambitious and even just in the three years that I have been here, LOM have made significant strides of progress and continuous developments to our ways of working.
What do you like/love about your office and the people who work with you?
The love of food in the office and being introduced to many new meals!
How would you describe LOM in one word?

Tell us about your role & a bit about your career background.
My current role at LOM is Operations Manager. I oversee the day-to-day functions of the Operations department which include but not limited to trade settlement, corporate actions, Option settlement, & Private Placement transactions and many other tasks.
I started my career in Operations in 1999 at Butterfield Bank in the Settlements Department. I was in charge of security pricing, setups and local Bermuda settlements. I then moved on to Bank of Bermuda Ltd (now HSBC) in 2001 as a Settlement Administrator. There I learnt all market settlement for equity and bond trades. Within 2 years I used that knowledge to accept a position with the Hedge Fund Everest Capital Ltd in 2003 where I spent 7 years as Senior Operations Officer. At Everest Capital I was exposed to a world of new settlements, which mostly included derivatives products such as Swap, Options, Foreign Exchange along with daily equity trades.
Why did you choose to come and work for LOM?
Unfortunately, my position at Everest Capital was made redundant in 2010 with their decision to move their business onshore (within the US) and I was thrust back into the job searching market. I had originally applied for a middle-office position LOM had advertised, early within my job search, but that was eventually changed as they needed a full-time trader. However, an Operations position opened up just as my time was finishing up at my previous employer and thankfully, they kept me in mind. I happily accepted the position.
How has working at LOM helped you with your career?
11+ years later it’s been my pleasure to be a part of the LOM Group. The management team has always been supportive of any goals I’ve had or wanted to achieve. My colleagues are, as a collective group, intelligent hard-working individuals but are also helpful and great people to work with. As I settle into my new role as the Operations Manager, I hope I can possess those same attributes that my team has a manager they can trust and depend on.
What makes LOM different to other employers you have worked for?
I appreciate the close-knit community LOM has. Working for larger firms doesn’t have the same sense of community that I have become accustomed to here.
What do you like/love about your office and the people who work with you?
The benefit of working for a small firm are the connections you make with people. You make real life bonds and friendships, but I also think it benefits the productivity of work you produce. I enjoy coming in the office daily. During the COVID pandemic, during the WFO Phase, really proved to me that having a good structure of team-work we can make it though any hardships. But I did miss the comradery that being in the office brings.
